A walk in winter

The sound of your voice
muffled by the snow
as we walked through the land which winter had besieged
To travel the distance of one dark night
to an eternity next to you
it wasn’t that far to go

I can still sense the warmth of your skin
when you pressed your head against my chest
the smell of your soft, chestnut hair
and your cold hands resting in mine

The snow fell so quietly that night
like it didn’t want to disturb us
and when finally we kissed
the whole world held it’s breath
and when our lips parted our lives had changed
